I take a spoonful of cereal inside my mouth and flip the page of TeenVogue. Today is Wednesday but we get a holiday due to the training for the teachers from the government. My family has planned a birthday party for the twins that will be thrown at a cool restaurant along with their friends.
Just FYI, yesterday was a big chaos at school. Class 11B suddenly becomes the star of all classes on the 11th grade, just because of that new guy! So, at the recess time, a crowd of girls are peering through the door window to have a look at the new guy. Sadly, it turned to be a girl fight. They pulled each other’s hair and a girl almost dies got choked by Kelly. Gosh, they’re so overreacting about it!
Vi almost got in the fight and luckily Mrs. Derreck came to the corridor and stopped all the fight. Phew! But still, no one except the students on class 11B has ever seen the real form of the new guy and they’re so not talking about it! They kept that as a class secret! Dang! Some even ask for money to tell the girls about his appearance, his name, and whether he’s rich or what is the connection between him and the Duke of German. Yeah, whatever.
And so, the new guy is still a big question mark for us. He’s the most wanted guy right now. Thanks God that today is a holiday, if not, aggressive girls would put on their best make up and the shortest skirt just for the “new guy”. Rumors said that he’s good-looking. Well, it’s just a rumor, right? And Vi really believes it!
Vi is on her way to my house with her new
A knock on the door tells me that it’s Vi. I get on my feet and open the door for her, she’s bringing a cute dog carrier by Louis Vuitton and I just love it! “Come on in!” I say and she steps inside. “Let me see the dog!” I exclaim. But she’s looking around cautiously and suddenly she whispers, “No. let’s get upstairs, this place is too dangerous.”
What?
“what you mean? This is my house!” I really get confused now.
“No. just get upstairs ok?” I give her a look and finally get upstairs.
When we’re inside my room, I close the door and wait for her to open the dog carrier.
“Open it!” I say impatiently.
“Ok. But don’t freak out because she’s really cute! And I don’t want her to get hurt, so that’s why I don’t want to open the carrier downstairs.” Yeah, whatever….Vi always confuses me and this isn’t the first time…
She slowly opens the door and letting that cute little creature out. But nothing’s coming out. “Uh, are you sure she’s there?” I raise my eyebrow.
“Oh yes of course. Come on little Twinkie!” she calls.
“What? Twinkie?” I ask dumbly.
“Well, it’s not her name. Just a calling.” She shrugs and after waiting for a minute or so, she gets her hand inside and pulls out the cutest little creature that I’ve ever seen! It’s small, it’s cream and it wears a cute pink skirt. Her round big eyes looking around my bedroom and finally at me.
“Hi…umm, little creature!” I say. “You got a really cute skirt!”
“I know it is! I made it!” Vi beams at me proudly.
“Err….it’s not that I don’t believe you, but you DON’T sew, right?” I ask. She looks at me for some split seconds and replies, “well, I do now. And don’t call her little creature. We have to get her a name!”
“Yeah. How about…..Bella?” I suggest.
“What? No! it’s my auntie’s name. and she’s really an evil!” Vi protests. “How about….Jade?”
“Good name. but not for her. Jade’s too much for that cute little furry creature.” I say. “How bout Ruby?”
We silent for some seconds and finally Vi says, “Good name! I agree.”
“Wow! You’re right! I was just blabbing actually. I didn’t really think of that name. I just mentioned another type of stone other than Jade, actually.” I say. And so we call that name over and over again so that she can starts to recognizing her name.
“Ruby, Ruby!” I call from the very corner of my bedroom and she’s turning around searching for me and after finding her caller she runs towards me and I give her a treat. Vi’s calling from beside my computer and Ruby quickly finds her. We got a really good time and after play chasing with Ruby at my backyard (Vi finally permitted Ruby to get down to my backyard), we all sit on my porch and resting.
The sun is shining brightly dangling in the sky and the weather is really great. I lay my back on my porch and Vi does the same. Ruby starts to lick our cheeks and she finally lay her head on the floor between us. I love this dog! Instantly!
The next day is like how I guessed it would be. The girls are suddenly wearing the sexiest outfit they have, even Gina, the bookworm wear make up today! Wow! What a revolution! As I walk up the stair, passing some smooching and hugging couples, I can feel the energy of girl fight rising in the corridor. The atmosphere is so tight, it’s like we can feed on each other anytime!
I find Vi on the back of the class, looking at her reflection in the small mirror that she always brings. “Hey!” I greet her as I put down my bag. And when she turns to see me, I can see she’s wearing her super-voluming mascara and she braids her hair! Does she get infected by the new virus here, too?
“You’re wearing your super-voluming mascara!” I point at her eyelashes.
“So what?” she looks at me dumbly. Am I the only girl who is normal today? Or am I becoming a guy?
Recess time finally comes. I don’t dare walking out of my classroom for that I know the girls will freak out in front of 11B. Not taking any risk, totally!
And so I take out my lunch box and pretend like there’s nothing happening when Kelly comes in and she has this flattered expression on her face. “Oh my god Sugar! You gotta look at the new guy! He’s a heaven-sent!” she says as she walks past me. Uh yeah.
“So, what’s he’s like?” as I ask Kelly, Vi rushes in and grabs my hand without speaking a word. “Hey! What’s wrong?” I ask as Vi pulls me down the stuffed corridor.
“You gotta have a look at this guy!” she insists and still grabbing my hand.
“Why?” I ask her again. Our feet has turned to 11B, where the girls are pretending like they’re visiting their old friends, even Jemima, the geek, got lots of girls circling her table. But as I look properly, all the girls around Jemima aren’t looking at Jemima, they’re looking at the direction of the very corner of the room.
There, sit a guy, reading a book, brown hair and he’s wearing a long expensive-looking pants with a cool shirt. Wow! So, is that the new guy everybody’s busy talking about?
Vi has pulled me closer to the guy and without warning, she pats his shoulder. It clearly distracts his fans that are looking at him, and he lifts his head.
Omg!
“Jeremy?!” I say in disbelief. He seems happy to find me looking at him, “Hi Sugar!”
“What the hell are you doing here?!” I almost too dumbfounded to talk. And for every reason, he has his right to be here, doesn’t he?
“Well, I moved!” he says cheerfully. Doesn’t he realize that he’s like an angel falling down to a wolf’s cage? He simply becomes the center of attention!
“Why? I mean……aren’t you suppose to be in your school?” I ask again.
This time, Geraldine who has paid a full attention to this conversation, came closer and put her hand on her hips, she strokes her hair and asks, “So, you two know each other?”
“Yes, of course. We happened to know each other from some events, aren’t we?” Jeremy smiles to me. Geraldine stares at me in astonishment, “Event? What event?” she asks.
“The Charity Evening. And my birthday party.” Jeremy replies coolly. Geraldine opens her mouth then closes it again. She then turns her heels, still in astonishment and walks away.
“You haven’t answered me. Why did you move in first place?” I repeat my question.
“Well….”
“I recommend him..” suddenly Sean comes in. “and isn’t that is what you want, Sugar?” he adds, whispering to my ear.
“What you mean?” I can feel my whole body comes to an alert. He chuckles and replies, “You know what I mean.”
We stare at each other for some split seconds then Vi takes my hand, “Come on.” She says, and we leave the room with the girls glaring at us.
Ruby has become our number one obsession after school. I always go to Vi’s house just to play with her and somehow, it makes us learn how to sew cos we want to make cute costumes for her. Some of them even exclusively made to match Vi’s dress so they will look good together.
“You should buy your own, Sugar. So we can walk on the pavements, holding our cute dogs wearing matching outfits.” Vi suggests, taking her dog to her lap and tap her head. Her tail moves eagerly and she barks few times as if she agrees with Vi’s suggestion.
“Oh I don’t know. I’m not sure I can really take care of a dog without getting bored with it eventually. And else, if she poops everywhere, I’m not sure I would want to clean it, especially on the pavement or in a shop.” I shrug and continue sewing Ruby’s flowery dress.
“You can hire someone to clean her poops. You will just play with her!” Vi says.
“Well, I wouldn’t be able to pay a dog poop’s cleaner.”
“But you work, right? You earn your own cash!” Vi put Ruby down and she runs around the room and biting Vi’s bed sheet.
“Yeah well.. I work to help my family. My mom hasn’t got a job yet, so you know, she counts on me. Hey! She’s biting your bed sheet!” I shout and Vi calls Ruby to stop biting her bed sheet, but that doesn’t work so she let her bite it. She actually doesn’t mind at all.
“What your mom does?”
“An accountant.”
“She can work in my Mum’s company!” she exclaims.
“No, no, no. really, she shouldn’t!” I refuse politely. Then a ring tone breaks our conversation, it’s my cell phone ringing. I snatch it and almost turn it off when I see the caller’s name, Jeremy!
I turn the green button, “Hi”
“Sugar! This is Jeremy. I was wondering maybe you are free this Saturday?”
“Oh I don’t know. Why?”
“Maybe you could come with me to a party?” he’s asking me on a date? “With Vi of course” he adds.
Oh. What am I thinking? Of course he asks Vi to come too!
“Wow! I will ask her first. Who’s birthday party?” oddly, he laughs. Why is he laughing? What’s so funny?
“It’s not a birthday party, actually.” He says, still laughing. “it’s just a party. The usual one. Every weekend.”
Well…..pardon me, I’m new in this part!
“I think I can. I will ask Vi later on.” I say.
“Oh ok. Just contact me later on. Ok then, see you tomorrow!”
“Ok. See you tomorrow!” the phone clicks off and still, it feels really weird when he says that. We’re in the same school right now! And somehow, that feels really weird.
“Jeremy asks us to go to a party. Will you be free this Saturday?” I ask Vi.
“Maybe. And even if I’m not, I’m thirsty for some fun!”
Yeah. No wonder she’s called a party animal.
