Jeremy

A birthday party? Sounds nice. But when it comes to choosing dress, I have to ask Vi, for real!

“turn around.” She says for the 15th times. I turn around in front of her, letting her to observe how her gown looks like on me. “hmm. I think you’ll look perfect on…..” she moves some dress hangers and take out a white-creamy gown, mid length, one strap dress. “..this!” she passes the gown to me.

Wow! Honestly, that is the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen! It looks like a Greek princess’s dress, all I have to add is a leaves crown on my head and I will look like a mix of Greek princess and Forest Fairy.

I change the purple short dress to the white-creamy dress and walke out from the clothes room. Vi scrutinizes my look and asks me to turn again. I turn and watch my reflection proudly on the mirror, the dress look perfect on me, it falls on the perfect height and the colour really makes my exotic eyes sparkles.

“Ok. That’s your dress!” Vi says in final conclusion.

“Oh finally! I love this dress too!” I say in relief. And for an hour or so we both make-up ing each other and do each other’s hair. Lucky for us that Vi has got all the properties to turn an ugly duckling into a princess cos now I really adore myself in the mirror.

“Ok, we’re ready!” says Vi while closing the make-up emergency kit that she’s going to bring. Vi wears this pretty (and expensive) dress of Marc Jacobs and a small sequined purse by Prada, whereas I wear her “not identified” greeky super-fabulous dress and bring a small creamy purse of my mom. Overall, I don’t look bad at all!

To make things clear, I have announced my statement to Vi that I’m going to this party because Vi invites me, not because I’m interested in her “hooking-up” thingie. And she just nod several times as an answer to my statement which is not encouraging that she really get my point.

We arrive at the party at 8 p.m. and it’s not too late or too early at all. The buzz in the room is pretty average and people are mingling around with some posh cocktails in their hands.

I just walked past a group of giggling girl in their high-heels and hundred-dollar dresses, they all smells good, though. I and Vi make our way through the crowds, Vi’s trying to search for Sean and I’m looking for no one.

“There he is!” Vi suddenly squeaks and she walks faster to a couple of boys that are laughing each other. “Hi Honey!” Vi greets Sean and she rounds her arm on his intently.

“Oh Hi! Wow! You look nice!” Sean says as response. “Oh..and hi Sugar.” He adds as his eyes fall upon me. He looks distracted by my presence, maybe because it brings us our nasty memory in the lab. “Honey, this is my friend, Jeremy. He’s the one having the birthday party.” Sean introduces his friend and I and Vi congratulate him. Next thing on, Vi and Sean has left for their cocktails.

“What a couple.”

“What?”

“They’re such a perfect couple aren’t they?” oh! It’s Jeremy talking to me!

“Oh.. yes they are.” I say blankly

“What’s your name?” he asks and extends his hand.

“Sugar,” I say, shaking his hand.

“So…you’re in the same school as Sean and his gf?” Jeremy asks again

“Yup..”

Ok, now I start to feel nervous. I mean, I don’t know this guy and he must be a multimillionaire to hold such a big party and he smells nice and he’s trying to be kind to me. I have to go! Let alone the multimillionaire and his friends!

“Umm..I need to get a drink. Excuse me.” I say, slipping away from his sight.

Ok, good. Now I am really lost I this big hall with no one to talk to. Let’s be cool. I lead my way to a table full with glasses and large bowls of cocktails, I should just serve myself a glass of cocktails and maybe a little mingling around. Maybe I can found a loner in the corner, no. that’s a bad idea. I will just hop to a group of girls and introduce myself and who knows what we might get into? We might be a best friend after all.

I poured myself a glass of pink liquid with sweet taste and I walk around the room. There are lots of girls and guys and there are lots of groups! My eyes fixed on a group of fun-looking girls and I make my way to that group. As I walk closer, I can hear them talking.

“….yes. that one with white straps! I really adore the color!”

“…and the price is quite reasonable anyway!

“…$450! Wow! I will definitely buy that! Definitely!”

This group isn’t for me.

I walk to another group and eavesdropping their conversation to make sure the topic is on my grasp.

“....and his shoes, I love his shoes!"

".....he's like a dream guy isn't he? every girl would love to be his gf!"

I gain my courage and come closer, "excuse me. I'm kinda new here. I unintentionally heard your conversation. umm....I wonder who the guy is." I say politely.

the girl with the bluest eyes and blondest hair turn her head to watch me and give me a look to check my dress and estimate the price and finally she said, "we're talking about Jeremy."

oh.

"so, he hasn't got a girlfriend?" I ask

"No. he ever got a girl once. her name is Hayley but then they broke up." says the girl with black mini dress.

"Why?" I can't help my curiosity on this topic.

"nobody knows why. Hayley is a year younger than he is and she's a pathetic little girl. she has this nasty look."

"zero sense of style! and anyway, she's not a socialite!" adds the skinniest girl with brown hair.

and now I'm speechless. it's like I have just fell into a scene of mean girls where the high-end guy must be with a socialite girl. stereotype!

"Ladies and gentlemen!" a sound suddenly erupts in the room, "the ball dance is going to get started! please find you own partner and get ready!"

"Oh! it's ball time! I have to search for Danny!" the skinniest girl suddenly said.
"Me too! where's Matt anyway?" said the blonde girl and she left with the skinny girl. the girl with black mini dress is now walking to a guy with big smile on his face and they both holding each other's hand and take a position.

ok, nobody tells me about this ball dance. and now I am left in the middle of the room with no one to dance with. anyway, I can't do ballroom dance either, better for me to go now.

As I walk to the exit door, I saw Sean and Vi giggling together and they both also take a position. a mild sound of ballroom music has started and couples are dancing gracefully.
time to leave!

"Hey! where are you going?" suddenly a voice interrupts my step to the exit door. I turn my feet to find Jeremy standing behind me.

"Uh..Umm...I'm going home. thanks for the party. it was great..." I say in a hurry.

"Why so fast? aren't you gonna miss this ball dance?" he asks again

"no...." I say " I don't have a partner, anyway."

"Come on." Jeremy extend his arm to me, waiting for me to give my arms around his.

"..I don't do ball dance.." I say.

"No worries. come on." he insists.

uh, ok. I have to admit. Jeremy is a very kind guy with a kind wide smile and a dark brown eyes that comforts me. he holds my waist and I hold his shoulder and slowly, leads me to a simple steps of ballroom. Gosh...
